It would be fair to say that this is the
most famous park in whole Istanbul, in addition to that it is also one of the
oldest parks in the city. The site itself was used as a military base in the
Byzantine era.
As for the Ottoman era, it was used as the garden of Topkapı
Palace which was the administrative palace of the empire for a couple of
centuries. Because it was full of roses and the whole park could meet the need
of roses for the entire palace it was called 'Gülhane', meaning 'house of
roses'. Together with this old history, its location also makes this palace
highly popular.
Park's most used entrance is located in the direction between
Sultanahmet Square and Eminönü Square, that is to say one of the most
convenient to get to in Istanbul. All
you need to do is take the tram and watch out for the station 'Gülhane'.
Chance
to visit Islamic Science and Technology Museum is another reason to visit.
Decorative pools, gardens with various designs and cafes with a reasonable
price would make the whole visit an experience to remember.
